There’s only one small difference between the title of this post and thousands of other articles in magazines. That’s the word NOT.
And it’s not because I don’t want to give you tips on how to lose weight – it’s because being able to spot a scam can save you time and many frustrations when the results don’t come.
I want to share this great video SciShow made about 3 Terrible Old-Timey Ways to (Not) Lose Weight – it explains the science behind why some weight loss products really don’t work.
- Sauna pants
- Electronic Muscle Stimulation Devices
- Fat jiggling belts
A rule of thumb I use is if it has an infomercial, don’t buy it. Even if it’s not completely useless I guarantee you there’s an easier and cheaper alternative!
I think the sauna pants can also be compared to wraps, which I see a lot of on instagram (though I haven’t thoroughly researched how they claim the wraps work). True, it is mainly from spam accounts, but they’re still taking money from trusting people and I hope you will never be one of them now!
A lot of short-term (5-10 days) diets also work in part the same way the sauna pants does. Those diets makes you lose water weight by being low carb (carbohydrates retain more water than fat) – and as Michael Aranda so wonderfully put it, the fastest way to lose water weight is simply to go pee. And we all now that’s not something that makes you lose weight in the long run 🙂
