Easy Healthy Snacks for When You’re on the go

Here’s some easy healthy snacks to bring with you to get through the day at work or school.

Snacks are the best part of the day (aside from breakfast, lunch and dinner….). Agree?

I don’t know if I do…

But I do love my snacks!

Especially when you have classes all day and need to stay focused, it’s so nice to have a quick and easy snack or two to grab when you have a spare second – just to get that extra bit of energy to push you through the rest of the day.

A piece of fruit or two always works, but here’s a few other things I like to bring in my backpack for the afternoon cravings:

HOMEMADE TRAILMIX

I’ll often trail mix as a backup-snack for long days at uni. If your blood sugar is getting low by the end of the day, it’s impossible to concentrate!

The simple mix I usually make consists of almonds, roasted chickpeas, raisins and dark chocolate. It takes no time to mix this stuff – and if you have 5-7 small containers you can prep for a whole week at once. When you make your own trail mix it’s easier to control how much sugar that goes into it.

Here are a few things you can put into your trail mix:

  • Nuts: almonds, cashews, walnuts, peanuts, pecans and pistachios
  • Seeds: sunflower, flax, hemp and pumpkin seeds
  • Sweet: raisins, banana chips, cranberries, dried cherries, dried apricots,dates and chocolate chips
  • Other: chickpeas, granola and popcorn.

I’m certainly not alone when it comes to the love of energy bites. I recently posted a recipe for these no-bake ones, but you can create an endless amount of variations!

These energy bites take no more than a few minutes to create and are a great snack for when you’re busy and don’t have time to sit down to eat – and it’s a good thing they’re so quick to make because they disappear very fast too!

PROTEIN BARS

Quest bars, bodylab, nutramino, whatever bars.

I only recently had my first bar (from Allevo) when they were on sale in the supermarket – and I had to find out if they’re worth the money.

I expected to still be like WHERE’S THE PIZZA! after eating one, but they were surprisingly filling, and the taste was amazing. I loved the rich chocolate flavour of my dark chocolate bar.

Under normal circumstances I think bars can be a bit pricey, but it’s very convenient and the taste is great (and by now there are so many different flavours you’ll find at least one you love). I don’t think bars ever should replace meals, but the convenience factor means it can be a good supplement to a healthy diet.

I know I’ll keep my eye out for protein bars on sale from now on!
